Daniel 3-6
“Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.” Daniel 3:16-18
Lord, this is a verse that I have heard often in my Christian life. I often allow well known verses to slip on by when I hear them because it is my desire to truly know Thy word and not to rely on the verses that are continually returned to by arm chair theologians. But, on the other hand, these verses are given and more well known for a reason and that is the power that is behind them. Lord, I ought not be careful to answer anyone in any matter concerning the truth of Thy word. Though I should always strive to be kind a Thou art, I ought to be seeking to warn men of the pending doom that awaits any who would reject Jesus Christ. Help me to stand, even in the face of insurmountable odds as these men did.
“Then Nebuchadnezzar spoke, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king's word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God. Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort. Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, in the province of Babylon.”
Lord, I doubt highly that in my lifetime, I will ever be faced with the prospect of a fiery furniss, or anything of the like, but I do face the prospect of seeing those who will be thrown into the lake of fire. Lord, help me to stand in adversity that others may come to know Thee. Help me to know the gravity of my responsibility so that I will be moved to action. Lord, too often I do not consider the plight of the lost…I need Thy truth in my life to change my heart into a heart of flesh for the lost and for Thy people.
