Bible Reading: 2090511

Luke 20-24

“And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury. And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites. And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all: For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.” Luke 21:1-4

Lord, thank You for the example of the poor widow and her two mites. I pray Lord, that I would always give to Thee out of my desire to serve Thee, and not to be seen of men. I pray that You would help me to shun the approval of the world and to desire only Thy approval.

“It was Mary Magdalene and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.” Luke 24:10

Again we find the women that were mentioned in Luke 8:1-3 that ministered unto Jesus with their substance are here at sepulcher, coming to anoint Jesus’ body. These women were not people who came and went but people who were with Him on a continual basis ministering unto Him. In the previous chapter, we find that after Christ had been brought to Pilate the first time, that he sent him unto Herod who was in Jerusalem at the time. We also find that when Jesus was sent to Herod, that Herod was glad because he had hear many things of Jesus. Again, I find it interesting because Joanna, the wife of Herod’s steward was still with Christ. Lord, help me to be like these women in that they continually ministered unto Thee with their substance. Also, if it please Thee, help me to be like Joanna, who not only was a woman of great means, but also one of great influence on many leaders within their realm. I know that much must be done in my life if that is what I am to be so I ask You to help me dedicate myself to Thy word and to the study of my and many other vocations that I might be able to stand in that place.

“Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulcher; And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive. And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulcher, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.” Luke 24:22-24

I also find it interesting that of all the people who accompanied Jesus in His travels and ministries, none of the twelve nor His disciples were given the opportunity to find the sepulcher empty, but the women who ministered unto him with their substance were the ones who were given the joy of seeing Christ risen from the dead first and hearing the glad tidings from His lips.
