Genesis 21-25
“That he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which is in the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he shall give it me for a possession of a buryingplace amongst you. And Ephron dwelt among the children of Heth: and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of the children of Heth, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying, Nay, my lord, hear me: the field give I thee, and the cave that is therein, I give it thee; in the presence of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead. And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land.” Genesis 23:9-12
Dear God, I do not know if there is any significance to what I see within this portion of scripture, but what I see is very similar to the manner in which you offer salvation to the children of men. When we strive and long and plead for salvation; and after we have done all that it seems that we can do to earn Thy salvation, it comes down to little more than Thy loving compassion and Thy marvelous grace in that You say “Nay…give I thee.” Help me Lord to know the truth of all that Thou doest in my life that I may be ever mindful of Thy love toward me and that I would always be grateful for this unspeakable gift that Thou hast given me.
